Cupping Therapy

Cupping Therapy

Cupping is an ancient therapeutic technique that involves the application of silicone cups to the skin to create space in the connective tissues and muscles. By using silicone cups, whether by using a gliding or stationary technique by your therapist, a negative pressure massage suction and lifting action is created. This technique can help stimulate the increase of blood flow and energy in the body, which can help relieve pain, reduce inflammation, and improve overall health. It also can break up stagnation and release muscular restrictions and increase range of motion. Cupping is often used to treat a variety of conditions, including back pain, muscle tension, and muscular restrictions. Your therapist will customize your session, placement of cups, based upon on your therapeutic needs and discomforts. Some active body movements will be incorporated while the silicone cups are in place. Cupping therapy can open up the body in ways manual massage can not accomplish.

Is Cupping Therapy right for you?

Clients with major organ disease or dysfunction, organ failure, chronic diseases, systemic cancers, active skin infections, and bleeding disorders unfortunately cannot be treated with cupping.

Cupping Marks

Please be aware that cupping marks can appear on certain stationary applied cupping techniques. These marks can be a sign of stagnation and may represent the health of underlying tissues. Your therapist will observe tissue reactions and will adjust the cups accordingly. This stagnation or restrictions tend to be darker. It is believed that cupping can draw toxins and stagnant blood to the surface of the skin to improve circulation and reduce muscular pain. These typical cupping marks will go away within several days so please plan accordingly.

Cupping Therapy Precautions and Aftercare

Some common side effects that clients may experience is slight dizziness, a temporary feeling of nausea either during or post treatment. This could be a sign of dehydration or possible low blood sugar; please drink plenty of water before and after your treatment and reduce alcohol consumption. You may experience some skin tenderness, cupping marks and post fatigue. Avoid saunas, vigorous exercise, hot showers, hot tubs, cold plunges and swimming for at lease 4-6 hours after your session. Give your body adequate time to cleanse, recuperate and adapt to this healing process.
